Online Payment of Profession Tax in Maharashtra By DHARANI KUMAR - March 9, 2016 Last Updated at: Jul 06, 2021 135001 Latest news update: In a notification issued in 2019, the Government of Maharashtra has amended rule 11(3) and rule 28(1) of the Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Rules, 1975. As per this, the professional tax liability limit for submission of returns for certain people has been increased from the existing Rs.50,000 to Rs.100,000. Payment of professional tax in Maharashtra can be done quickly on the Mahavat website. In fact, e-payment is mandatory for those making the payment monthly. You are required to make payment and file returns monthly if your tax liability is over Rs. 50,000 for the year. This must be done by the last day of the subsequent month. If your liability is less than Rs. 50,000, you can wait until the end of the financial year in March to make payment and file returns. Professional Tax Registration How to Make Online Payment 1. Go to the Mahavat website and select the e-payment link, in case of Professional Tax Registration Certificate (PTRC), or Ptec e-payment, in case of Professional Tax Enrollment Certificate (PTEC). 2. Login using your TIN Number and select e-payment. 3. A Challan in MTR Form No. 6 shall be displayed. It shall contain TIN and name of the dealer by default. 4. Select type of e-payment (whether PTEC or PTRC, etc), the period for which payment is being made, the amount being paid, the location under which you are registered. Do remember that every field needs to be populated for the form to be accepted. 5. PTEC holders Should select Form ID ‘VIII’ for Tax payment. All others should simply select ‘Other’ and the appropriate remark from the adjacent drop-down list. 6. On completing the form and hitting submit, the Government Request Number or GRN will be generated. Hit Pay and complete the transaction. 7. Save the receipt that appears on payment as it is proof of payment to the government.
