Proof of Tax Payment:

A stamped counterfoil acts as a proof for tax payment. It includes the CIN (Challan Identification Number), date of payment, the amount paid as tax, etc. The CIN consists of a serial number of challan, 7-digit BSR code of the bank branch doing the transaction and the date of remittance. CIN can come in handy during future references, especially during filing ITR. The CIN could also be asked to be regenerated in case of any mishaps.

Amendments to Challan after submission:

An Assessee may request changes in the Challan which the concerned banks can make. The banks get a period of about 7 days from the day of remittance to make the challan changes for information like TAN and PAN, total amount, etc. Similarly, the banks get around 3 months to make changes in fields like Challan deposit date, nature of payment, etc.

Verification of Challan Tax Payment:

Verification of a Challan confirms the status of the challan. It can be verified either by the CIN based view or the TAN based view. The CIN view provides details like the CIN, BSR code, the serial number of challan, etc. to track the status of the challans. The TAN view gives details of Tax deduction and collection number or TAN, Challan tender date, etc. to view the CIN. If any refunding is pending, then the taxpayers can view status of refund 10 days after their refund has been sent to the banker by the officer.
