How to Apply for PAN Card for your Business

Are you the owner of a business or a company operating in India? 

If yes, you must have a PAN, even if your company is incorporated abroad. You must mention your PAN while making any kind of financial transactions.

If your business is without a PAN, you can’t enjoy the tax benefits offered by the Government of India and you will be liable to pay taxes at the highest rate applicable. Hence, it’s time you apply for PAN card for your business if you have not got one so far. In this blog, we will tell you about the documents required for a pan card. Documents required for pan card application for a business

The following are the documents required for pan card application for business-

For companies incorporated in India

  • Copy of the Certificate of Incorporation/registration*
  • Additionally, a proof of address ( where the registered office of the company is located.
  • Moreover, demand Draft of the requisite fee ( if the payment is made offline)

*Please note:

Depending upon the type of your business, the documents required for pan card application may vary (as mentioned in the table below)-

For Companies Certificate of Registration  issued by the Registrar of Companies (RoC)
For LLP Firms Certificate of Registration  issued from the Registrar of LLPs
For a body of individuals/association of persons/ local authority Agreement or certificate of registration issued by the registrar of co-operative societies
For trusts Trust deed or Certificate of registration issued by Charity Commissioner
For Partnership Firms Partnership Deed or Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of Firms

For companies incorporated abroad

  •  Moreover, copy of the Certificate of Registration issued in the country of incorporation. The same needs to be attested by “Apostille”/ Indian Embassy/ consulate /Indian High Commission/ authorized officials of branches of Scheduled Indian Banks located in the country of incorporation.

    Or 

  • Additionally, a copy of the Certificate of Registration issued in India, with the approval by Indian authorities to establish an office in India.

How to apply for a PAN card for your business

 The step-by-step procedure to apply for PAN card for your business is as follows-

  1. Visit the paperless PAN application page on the NSDL website by clicking the URL (Alternately, you can also apply on the UTIITSL website by clicking the URL)
  2. Additionally, select ‘Form 49A’ or ‘49A’ from the ‘Application Type’ drop-down menu. Moreover, select the appropriate type of your business from the ‘Category’ drop-down menu. Similarly, let’s assume you have selected ‘Company’ as your category of business. 
  3. Mention the name, date of Incorporation of the company, the contact number, and the Email id, etc in the spaces provided. Additionally, enter the Captcha code and click ‘Proceed’. 
  4. Likewise, on the next page, you need to specify the source of income of the company. Select ‘Income from business/profession’ and mention the type of business. Fill in your office address in the space provided. However, this will be your official address for all communication with the MCA. 
  5. Similarly, in this step, your need to provide your AO (Accounting Officer) Code. Moreover, you can get your code from the NSDL website by clicking the ‘AO Code Search for PAN’ link. 
  6. In this stage, you will need to upload the specified documents related to your business. You will also need to specify your relationship with the company. Only the company director or an authorized signatory can apply for a PAN card for a company. 

After you fill all the details, you will be asked to review the application for errors. Click the ‘submit’ button, if you are satisfied.  

7. Now, you need to pay the required application fee. You can make the payment through net banking, debit/credit card, and demand draft. 

8. Once you are done with the payment, an acknowledgment receipt bearing a 15-digit number will be sent to your email id.  With this number, you can check your PAN card application status online at the NSDL website. 

9. You need to send the hard copies of the documents uploaded, along with the signed acknowledgment receipt to the Income Tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL office, Pune. Send the Demand Draft also, if you have made the payment offline. 

        Please note that the hard copies should reach the NSDL office within 15 days from the date of your online application. The department will then scrutinize your application and accompanying documents. With the satisfaction, they will issue your PAN card within 15 business days.
