Purpose of Marriage Registration

A marriage certificate is a necessary document for proving a couple’s legal Marital status. It is conclusive evidence of a marriage. Eligibility for Applying for Marriage Registration

  • There should be no legitimate marriage subsisting between either of the parties and anyone else.
  • The bridegroom should be at least twenty-one (21) years old, and the bride should be at least eighteen years old (18).
  • The parties should not be incapable of giving informed consent for the marriage, or suffer from any mental disease or be unsuitable for marriage and childbearing, or have been subjected to periodic insanity attacks.
  • The parties should not fall within the degree of prohibited relations.

Documents Required to Apply for Registration

  • The application form is duly filled out and signed by the bride and groom 
  • Documentary confirmation of the parties’ date of birth (matriculation certificate/passport/birth certificate); 
  • ID  proof of the husband and wife (PAN Card/ voter ID/ driving license/ Aadhaar card). 
  • Proof of residence (ration card/ voter ID/ passport/ driving license). 
  • Photographs of 4 events (Varmala, Mangal Sutra, Mang Tika, Phere) 
  • One family photo. 
  • 2 witnesses from each side
  • Testimonial photo ID 
  • Passport-size photos of each witness 
  • Affidavits of the bride and groom 
  • 7 copies of photographs of the husband and wife together  (White background, 3×2 size). 
  • Group photo of the husband and wife, together with witnesses. 
  • Wedding reception area photo
  • A notice on plain paper by pandit Ji claiming that the marriage of the groom (name) S / O ………….. (name) and the bride (name) D / O … (name) took place on …….. (date) … at … (Marriage place) and it was he who conducted it. 
  • Gurudwara / Church/ Kazi / Priest certificate in case a non-Hindu custom of marriage was followed

The Offline Procedure

  • Once you have all the above-mentioned documents, prepare the application and include the affidavits needed. Approach the Sub Divisional Magistrate’s office of the jurisdiction applicable to you and make an appointment at the registrar of the marriage office. 
  • Remember that your partner and witnesses are expected to attend. Bring the filled application, affidavit and all the necessary documentation (for all spouses and witnesses).
  • Usually, the date of appointment is set within 15 days of the request, but occasionally the wait can extend up to 60 days. If you require a marriage certificate at the earliest, opt for Tatkal marriage registration.

  • Log in to start your online application.
  • Sign in as a new user. Then verify your email address and phone number through an OTP.

  • Once you sign up, log in with your email address and password.

  • Then from the  left-hand menu, click on ‘Apply for a Service.’
  • Thereafter, search for marriage registration.
  • Since you are based in Gurgaon, click on the urban marriage registration option.
  • Fill out the bride, groom, and witnesses details.

  • Pay the marriage registration fee once you fill in the above-mentioned details.
  • Thereafter upload all your documents. You must also upload bridal, groom, and witnesses’ affidavits.

  • Thereafter, you have the option to print your application for a marriage certificate. 
  • Upon successful processing of your payment, generate an acknowledgment slip and take a printout of your application.

Rules for Witnesses for Marriage Registration

It’s necessary to get at least two witnesses’ signatures to Marriage Certificate Online in Gurgoan. There are some requirements one has to fulfill in order to become a marriage witness and they are: 

  • The witnesses should be at least 21 years old. 
  • Anyone who has witnessed the wedding of the couple can be a witness to the marriage registration.

  • Furthermore, it is preferred for one of the parents to be the witness to the registration.
