This new portal has integrated useful services (including the application for PAN & TAN) with the MCA incorporation portal. TAN or Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number is a ten digit alphanumeric number. It is issued by Income Tax Department of India for the individuals and firms who are supposed to deduct tax at source when required. It is necessary to be quoted in TCS or TDS return. Every legal bodies that are paying commissions, interest, salaries or dividend requires a TAN. Thus, any government body, proprietor, company would also need a TAN. Who needs a TAN? All legal bodies that will be paying salaries, commissions, interest or dividend need a TAN, as it is to be quoted on deducted tax at source. Therefore, any company, proprietor, government body, would need a TAN. Online payment can only be made with the applicant (director in case of private limited company, Karta in case of HUF). This is recommended, as your other options are sending a demand draft to the NSDL office in Pune or paying cash at TIN-FC centres across India. On making payment, you will receive a 14-digit acknowledgement number, along with the status of the application, contact details and space for signature. Do sign this acknowledgement and place it within an envelope super scribed ‘Application for TAN – 14-digit Acknowledgement Number’ and send it to: NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune – 411016 Your application should reach this address within 15 days. Within 5 days from receipt of your application, NSDL will allot the TAN Number. Acquiring a TAN is simple, as it is done online. National Securities Deposits Ltd or NSDL takes form online. You just have to fill the application and submit it. You can make payment through online, demand draft or cash. After the payment, you will receive acknowledgement number of 14 digits along with status, contact details and place for signature. The TAN number will be allotted by NSDL.
