But, in the present day, checking provident funds and the amount collected has become a super quick and easy task. But, before that, we need to know what exactly are provident funds and UAN.

What are EPF and UAN?

The EPF (Employees Provident Fund) is the equal amount of the interest contributed by both the employer and the employee in the EPF account for the post-retirement needs of the employee basically acting as a savings account.

The first and foremost step before checking the EPF balance is to activate the UAN with the help of your mobile number. The steps include the following:

  • To activate the UAN, on the UAN portal, the mobile number and the UAN have to be entered.
  • Next, a PIN is sent on the provided mobile number.
  • After the pin is entered, the verification of the credentials is done.
  • Further, the password has to be created.
  • After the completion of these steps, the UAN gets activated.
