Types of BIS certification schemes

The various schemes to obtain Bureau of Indian Standardscertificate for Indian and foreign manufacturers include: 

Normal procedure: Under this procedure, the following steps take place:

    1. First, the applicant has to submit the Bureau of Indian Standards certificate cost along with the required documents. 
    2. Likewise, next, the BIS officers conduct a verification of the products along with the industry.
    3. Once done, the samples of the products are further sent for testing at the factory.
    4. Additionally, if approved, the BIS provides the BIS certificate for Indian manufacturers within 4 months of the submission of the application. 

Simplified procedure: Under this procedure, the granting of the Bureau of Indian Standards certificate is faster than compared to the regular procedure. Moreover, the steps include the following:

    1. Initially, the applicant submits the report of the test sample which is approved by the BIS. 
    2. Along with the application, it is important to submit the application and BIS certificate cost.  
    3. Moreover, if verified and approved according to the acclaimed standards, the BIS grants the certificate within 30 days of application. 

ECO mark scheme: Firstly, for all the companies producing eco-friendly products, the BIS provides the BIS certification for import and BIS certificate for Indian manufacturers according to a separate scheme. Additionally, under this ECO mark scheme, they set separate standards for the companies, which they need to qualify to obtain the certificate. 

Foreign manufacturers certification scheme: Likewise, Under the FMCS, the foreign producers can apply for the Bureau of Indian Standards certification for import. Under this, the cost of BIS certification varies accordingly. Therefore, the BIS provides the certificate within 6 months from the application.
